[English-Português] Então aqui estão três músicas novas para a trilha sonora. Deixe-me falar um pouco sobre o meu processo. Primeiramente eu gosto de trabalhar com tardes abertas onde ninguém vai me incomodar e eu não precisarei estar em algum lugar dali a duas horas. Ter esse tipo de liberdade é bom para a criatividade. Essas novas músicas foram feitas na maior parte com o trabalho de uma dessas tardes. Eu tinha toda a idéia de utilizar barulhos nas músicas, mas faltava alguma coisa e eu percebi que era algo mais orgânico. Minha tarde começou quando eu apertei o botão vermelho do meu gravador digital Zoom H2 enquanto eu improvisava no meu baixo. Mixar isso numa parte de um violão que eu gravei para outra música (projeto diferente, eu faço isso muito) e uma pequena parte de uma bateria que um amigo meu gravou para outro projeto (Álvaro da The Grind, eu lhe dou o crédito) foi o que acabou constituindo a “warmbass”. Aí só foram necessários alguns ajustes para ficar do jeito que eu queria, o resultado é uma certa sensação esquizofrênica do baixo indo para um lado livremente e o violão indo reto e tentando puxar o baixo pra si. A próxima foi ‘Harp of God’. Começou tocando violão. Eu percebi que se fizesse uma seqüência simples de notas melosas eu poderia criar uma música simples e com um efeito forte. No momento em que eu já havia gravado o teclado e estava mixando eu percebi que tinha tropeçado num desses momentos de sorte que gravar músicas às vezes oferece. A frase “My soul” (minha alma) foi retirada do vocal de uma outra música e repetida primeiro inversamente depois normalmente em várias velocidades e tons diferentes. Nisso o nome “Harp of God”. Depois disso era pegar uma inspiração na música de La Monte Young “The Tortoise His Dreams and Jorneys”, algo que eu e Rodrigo havíamos visto há anos e simplesmente ficou no fundo da mente, e tentar criar uma textura semelhante considerando a realidade do filme que estamos fazendo. A primeira coisa que eu percebi foi que eu precisava de um som orgânico. Se eu fizesse tudo a partir do teclado, ou pior, do computador, eu acabaria com um som digital sem profundidade. Então novamente com meu baixo. Aí gravei três faixas no teclado de um som contínuo em Mi bemol e balanceei o volume delas pra conseguir a sensação que eu queria. Eu posso dizer que essas novas músicas têm trazido interessantes descobertas, como aprender cada vez mais como trabalhar com o Audacity (que realmente é um programa intuitivo), com chegar mais perto de encontrar uma estética para a trilha sonora do filme, e aprendendo que elementos orgânicos funcionam muito bem. So here are three new songs for the soundtrack. Let me tell you all a little bit about my process. I like to work with nice open afternoons where no one will nag me and I won’t have to be somewhere else in two hours. Having that kind of freedom is good for the creative juices to flow. These new songs were mostly done in the work of one such afternoon. I had the whole idea of utilizing noise in the songs, but something was missing, and I realized it was something more organic. My afternoon began with pressing the red button on my Zoom H2 digital recorder as I improvised on my bass. Mixing that to part of a guitar I had recorded earlier for another song (different project, I do that a lot) and a small part of some drums a friend of mine recorded (Alvaro from The Grind, I give him the credit) was what ended up constituting “warmbass”. All it took was a little tweaking to get it the way I wanted, the result is that kind of schizophrenic feel of the bass going one way freely and the guitar going straight and trying to grab the bass into it. Next was “Harp of God”. It started by playing the guitar. I realized if I could do a simple kind of mellow sequence of notes then I would have a simple song with a strong effect. By the time I had recorded the keyboard and was mixing I realized I has stumbled upon one of those lucky brakes that recording gives you. The sentence ‘my soul’ was taken from the vocals of one of my other songs and mixed first reversed than straight in various different speeds and tones. Hence the name ‘Harp of God’. After that it was time to take some inspiration from La Monte Young’s “The Tortoise His Dreams and Journeys”, something me and Rodrigo had seen years ago and it just stayed in the back of our heads, and try to recreate a similar texture considering the reality of the film we are making. The first thing I realized was that I needed an organic sound. If I did everything from the keyboard, or worse, from the computer, I would probably end up with a shallow digital sound. So again with my bass. Then I recorded three tracks of a continuous E flat in the keyboard and balanced the volumes between them to get the feel I wanted. I can say that these new songs have brought some interesting discoveries, such as learning even more how to work with audacity (which really is a very intuitive program), with getting closer to finding an aesthetic to the soundtrack of the film, and learning that organic elements work very well.
